Hosted at the spacious Play by Play sports complex in San Marcos, our San Diego tournament offers an exciting way to connect with the broader USSD martial arts community.
Participants experience healthy competition in sparring, Kata, and weapons— all while supported by their dojo family and instructors.
When you sign up to compete, it also helps your home dojo! United Studios schools that send students to tournament have the opportunity to compete for the School Trophy. Dojos are awarded the trophy based on the results on their students' competition.
With a focus on growth through competition— regardless of rank and experience —this Karate tournament is open to all United Studios students.

Sparring Equipment Requirements
- Head: Helmet with face-cage/shield & Mouthguard
- Gloves: Full Protection (No Open Fingers)
- Foot: Bushido or Feiyue Shoes Required
- Groin Protector: Required for Men's and Boy's Sparring
- OPTIONAL: Shin, Forearm, Chest
Point Sparring Rules:
- Full Sparring Gear Required. See above for more information.
- Only strikes to the front of the body, to the side of the body, and to the sides/top of the head are permitted.
- Green Belt & Above may make controlled contract to the face.
- Each strike landed counts as one point.
- All strikes below the belt, to the back of the body, and to the face(below the rank of green belt) are prohibited.
- Stay in the ring. If you go out of the ring, you will get one warning. Successive "ring-outs" will result in your opponent being rewarded a point.
- A match will end after a competitor has scored three points, or, whoever has the most points after a five minute period.
- Absolutely no sparring without the supervision of a Black Belt Instructor.
Kata / Open Kata / Weapons Scoring:
- Points are awarded for accuracy, power, stance, balance, precision, and intensity.
