"I have always been interested in learning Martial Arts. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the opportunity to do so as a kid. I’ve always worked rotating shifts and I’ve never been able to find a Martial Arts school that would work around that. One day, my family and I just happened upon United Studios of Self Defense. I told Sensei Dan Sandoval that I was interested in the Martial Arts, but I worked rotating shifts. He said that was not a problem and they could easily work around that.

My son, daughter and I signed up that day and have been doing it ever since. The experience is better than anything I could have ever imagined. It has brought my son and I closer together and we bond a lot more now. It gives us something to do as a family and we always have something to talk about at the dinner table.

I had been working towards a goal of losing weight, and being at United Studios has helped me to achieve that goal. Now I am more flexible and I am able to do things now that I wasn’t able to do before. I always have a high level of energy and that is important when you work is so demanding like mine.

The experience of the 2006 USSD China Trip has helped to bring my son and I a lot closer. It has also brought us closer with the rest of the dojo. We are like a family now. It is hard to put into words experiencing training with the Shaolin Monks at the Shaolin Temple and seeing one of the oldest cultures in the world.

My son has matured greatly through his training at USSD. I don’t have to worry about him being on the streets and doing drugs or committing crimes. Earlier this year, while we were at LAX, and older lady asked my son to help her with her bags. She remarked to me what a mature and respectful son I have.

My daughter has always been shy and struggled in school. She has a lot more confidence now and her grades have improved. With the stories you hear about little girls being kidnapped, it is great to know that she is safe with the training she has received at United Studios of Self Defense."

"USSD helps me keep an active lifestyle. In July 2004, I tore three ligaments and my meniscus in my right knee. It took two surgeries and over a year and a half of physical therapy to walk normal again.

I was told to get a gym membership because I needed to keep strengthening my knee. I personally do not do well at gyms because there is no one to work out with or anyone to push me to do better. On a whim, I came with a friend to USSD. They gave a demonstration and let me try it out for a month.

Each week at USSD, I work with one of the Sensei’s who pushes me to do better. The adult classes work on strengthening and coordination. Some of the exercises were the same ones I had to do in therapy.

It has been two years since my last surgery and my knee is doing great. I have no pain or stiffness during climate changes. I am able to climb stairs, run, jog or jump with no pain. I have confidence that my knee will hold my weight and am more self-assured when walking to my car.

USSD made me feel welcome and accepted me when I had difficulty with exercises. They work with me and give positive reinforcement when I need it. I would and have recommended USSD to all my friends and family. Thanks USSD, Sensei Dan and Sensei Bryan for helping me to keep my active lifestyle."

"My son Adam Brewer, was diagnosed with ADHD at a very early age. We had difficult times with him in school on staying focused and on track. Another issue that always came up and still to this day are the other children would tend to make fun of him. Adam has always had a problem with making friends and keeping friends. I wanted to involve my son in something that would help him with discipline, focusing and self esteem.

I was contacted by United Studios of Self Defense in Chino Hills and decided to give it a try. Once I saw how both Sensei Dan Sandoval and Sensei Bryan Acosta taught class, I thought this is what Adam needs. Both Sensei Dan and Sensei Bryan work well with the children. They know how to get my son to stay focused and on track. They make each class an experience for the children. Many of the parents need to know the dedication and joy that is given by the instructors in teaching their children. Their children are getting a lesson in life which will help through their years as children and as adults. When I asked my son what he enjoyed about karate, he stated, “because it is fun”. Little does he know that he is learning discipline, self-control, and character which will take him up through his adult years. He is also learning to protect himself against the bullies and predators of this world.

I would definitely recommend taking up karate as a family too. Not only is it good for the children, but for families as well. It is such a good family environment. Your whole family can enjoy working out and staying healthy together. It promotes a strong family unity and you can push each other to strive to do your best. That is why I too decided to join. I wanted something that I could do with my son and also work on protecting myself from any situation that may arise.

I think more parents should take the time to research the benefits of putting their children and themselves in a USSD Studio. I know my son is getting a good lesson in life."

"When my son, Kamran Ghandhy turned 5 and started kindergarten, we knew we had to find a solution to a couple of problems we had. First was the lack of physical activity and second was his inability to stay focused.

We first introduced him to team sports, baseball and soccer. He showed no interest in them and refused to participate. Knowing how much he loved the Power Rangers T.V. show, I took him to United Studios of Self Defense for a trial lesson. He was hooked almost immediately. I was really surprised at the interest and commitment he has shown for the Martial Arts.

The instructors at USSD are very good with Kamran. They instill a lot of strong values in him. He is taught to never give up, always do his best, stand up for himself and others, and be responsible for his own actions. Through the Martial Arts and USSD, Kamran learned structure, discipline, control, respect, and most importantly, focus, physical endurance, and coordination. It has far exceeded my expectations. He thrives in school and he has a lot of pride in his accomplishments. I couldn’t be more pleased. The Sensei’s also teach him vital skills to avoid dangerous situations and the know-how to protect himself should the situation arise.

What he has learned from USSD has given him the tools to see himself through every situation he will face in life and enhance his convictions to be a good person, and for that, THANK YOU USSD!

I would recommend United Studios of Self Defense to all of my friends. In this day and age, we will do our children a great injustice if we don’t equip them with the skills and desire to be a good and responsible citizen. Martial Arts strongly emphasizes a strict Code of Conduct. It teaches structure, discipline, control, and self defense. With it, they will learn to stay away and stand up to all the bad elements like drugs, alcohol and violence. Hopefully they will carry these values all through their adult lives and benefit our society as a whole. That would be COOL!"
